Meta Inks $27 Billion Financing Deal with Blue Owl Capital for Louisiana Data Center
Meta Platforms Inc. has announced a groundbreaking $27 billion financing deal with Blue Owl Capital to support the development of its largest data center project to date, located in Louisiana. The agreement represents Meta’s biggest private capital deal ever, signaling the company’s accelerating push to expand infrastructure for its artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives.
Under the terms of the agreement, Meta will retain about 20% equity in the Louisiana data center, while Blue Owl Capital—a leading alternative asset manager—will hold the majority stake through its managed funds. Blue Owl has invested approximately $7 billion in cash, with Meta receiving a one-time payout of around $3 billion as part of the transaction.
The financing structure allows Meta to offload a portion of the project’s capital burden while maintaining strategic involvement in its operations. This approach reflects a growing trend among major tech companies leveraging private capital partnerships to fund the immense costs associated with AI-driven infrastructure.
The Louisiana data center will serve as a crucial hub for Meta’s expanding portfolio of AI products and services, including large language models and generative AI applications that demand massive computing capacity. The facility is expected to play a key role in powering Meta’s AI research, content moderation systems, and metaverse technologies.
Industry analysts note that the partnership with Blue Owl underscores a shift in the way Big Tech firms are financing large-scale AI infrastructure. By tapping into private capital markets, companies like Meta can scale faster while preserving liquidity for ongoing innovation and platform development.
As global demand for AI processing power continues to surge, Meta’s Louisiana data center project—backed by one of the largest financing deals in the tech sector—positions the company as a dominant player in the next generation of cloud and AI infrastructure.
