PM Modi is visiting Brunei at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the world’s second-longest reigning monarch, after the late Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Sultan Bolkiah is renowned for his immense wealth and opulent lifestyle, including owning the world’s largest private car collection, which is valued at an estimated $5 billion.
With a net worth of $30 billion, primarily generated from Brunei's rich oil and gas reserves, the Sultan boasts a collection of over 7,000 luxury vehicles. This includes approximately 600 Rolls-Royces, earning him a Guinness World Record for the most Rolls-Royce cars owned by an individual. His collection also features around 450 Ferraris and 380 Bentleys, according to reports from The Sun. Additionally, the Sultan owns numerous Porsches, Lamborghinis, Maybachs, Jaguars, BMWs, and McLarens, as noted by automotive sources like CarBuzz and The South China Morning Post.
Among the highlights of his collection are a Bentley Dominator SUV worth about $80 million, a Porsche 911 in Horizon Blue with an X88 power package, and a 24-carat gold-plated Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II. One of his most treasured cars is a custom Rolls-Royce with an open roof and gold accents, featuring an umbrella. The Sultan also commissioned a custom gold-coated Rolls-Royce for his daughter Princess Majeedah’s wedding in 2007.
Beyond his impressive car collection, the Sultan resides in the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, which holds the Guinness World Record as the largest residential palace in the world. Spanning over two million square feet, the palace is adorned with 22-carat gold and includes five swimming pools, 1,700 bedrooms, 257 bathrooms, and 110 garages. The Sultan’s luxurious lifestyle extends to owning a private zoo, home to 30 Bengal tigers and various bird species, as well as a Boeing 747 aircraft.
PM Modi’s visit to Brunei not only highlights the growing ties between the two nations but also offers a glimpse into the extraordinary wealth and lifestyle of one of the world’s most affluent monarchs.
